Description:

ATTRIBUTED TO ALLAN RAMSAY (1713-1784) "PORTRAIT OF LADY SELE".
European (Scotland), mid 18th Century. Oil on canvas, in a later frame. Restored and laid on board. Three-quarter-length portrait of Lady Sele (probably Elizabeth Turner, wife of Thomas Tiwsleton, 13th Baron Saye and Sele). She wears a fancy blue silk dress with lace and ribbon. Unsigned. 39"h. 33.5"w. (sight). Frame 45.5"h. 44"w.

  • Condition: The painting has been restored, with an overvarnish. We found a document folded and tucked in the back of the frame with information from a 1981 evaluation indicating that this restoration had already been completed at that time. There is an apparent repair in the left side by the building, and some inpainting on her right sleeve.
