CONNECTICUT SHELL CARVED BLOCK FRONT TALL CASE CLOCK BY NATHAN HOWELL (1741-1784).
American (New Haven), 18th Century (circa 1772). Cherry with poplar secondary. Bonnet with arched top, turned and gilt ball and spike finials, fluted keystone and pilasters and arched door. Case with bold moldings below bonnet and at waist, overlapping block front door with shell carving and ogee bracket feet. Brass and silver plated face with brass ormolu, brass works, weights, and pendulum. Refinished. 94"h. 22.5"w. 11.25"d. Ex Florene Maine (Ridgefield, Connecticut); descended in the Howell family (see accompanying letter detailing provenance from Florene Maine). From the lifetime collection of Joanne & Dr. David Woodyard, Granville, Ohio.
