KENTUCKY FEDERAL CHERRY AND SATINWOOD-INLAID SUGAR CHEST.
American (Kentucky), ca. 1800-10. Cherry with satinwood inlay. Having a partially-hinged top above a dovetailed case inlaid with a central oval medallion flanked by flowers. The base with a scalloped skirt and bracket feet. The interior well fitted with two aligned drawers. 29.5"h. 30"w. 24"d.

Provenance: From The Lifetime Collection of Janet & Charles Muto (Ottawa Hills, Ohio); sold at Weschler's (Washington, D.C.), December 7, 1986, Lot 1327.

  • Condition: The French feet are a much later addition, inlays are suspect and were likely added when the feet were. Backboard at top shows fill in where original hinges were set. Interior drawer brasses are replaced and the whole is refinished. (JS. 9.3.25)
