NATIVE AMERICAN INLAID TRADE AXE PIPE BELIEVED TO BELONG TO TECUMSEH.
North American, probably 18th Century. Forged iron head with German silver and brass inlay. Curly maple handle has old refinishing. 18.5"l. Purchased by Bruce Knight out of a home in Springfield, Ohio and sold to Clark Garrett (Ohio), then sold at Mike Clum's Clark Garrett auction, lot 1059, June, 2002. See "Tecumseh, A Life" by John Sugden for the narrative related to a silver inlaid pipe tomahawk that was taken from Tecumseh during a council meeting in Springfield, Ohio on June 24, 1807.
