American (New York), 19th Century. Pencil on paper. Side portraits of a man and woman in matching inlaid frames. The woman has an illegible signature at lower right ("DW H___y fecit"). The man has a pen and ink notation on verso "Gurdon Hewitt, Owega NY". Both have tags from Lyman Allyn Museum. 5.25"h. 4.25"w. Sold at Garth's Auctions (Delaware, Ohio), November 23, 2018 (Lot 565).

  • Condition: Paper is wrapped around wooden boards that have traces of original backing paper (man's notation is on this original backing). Both have staining and foxing, especially around the edges.
