American, First half 19th Century. Hollow cut paper and ink. The first a hollow-cut and ink-stamped profile portrait in an eglomise and giltwood frame, an inscription on verso identifying him as John Daniels, born in Keene, N.H. 1807 and died in West Cambridge 1852. Framed, 5.75"h. 4.75"w.
The second a hollow-cut profile in an eglomise and black and gilt metal frame. Framed, 4.5"h. 3.5"w. The third a hollow-cut and ink profile in a giltwood frame. Framed, 4.75"h. 3.75"w.

Provenance: From The Lifetime Collection of Janet & Charles Muto (Ottawa Hills, Ohio); sold at Garth's Auctions (Delaware, Ohio), May 17, 2013, Lot 86.

  • Condition: The first is loose in the frame with insect damage, toning, and foxing to paper; frame has chips at corners, glass has an inclusion. The second has losses to eglomise and some scattered foxing to paper. The third has toning to paper and areas of discoloration to top and bottom.
